Houston-based Midway has landed yet another company's headquarters as a tenant for

its sprawling East River mixed-use development near downtown.

Houston-based Suderman & Young Towing Co. has leased 6,000 square feet of office

space in East River’s Trail Head 1, which is also referred to as Building F. The building is

situated next to a bayou-side greenspace, Midway said March 21.

“We are thrilled that Suderman & Young has chosen to office at East River, and we look

forward to welcoming their employees to experience the dynamic and amenity-rich

work environment we have curated,” said Anna Deans, vice president of investment and

development for Midway. “We are right on target for debuting this transformational

project in the fall as we close out building construction and move into the next stage of

tenant build-outs.”

Suderman & Young Towing was founded in Galveston more than 100 years ago to

provide towing and ship-assist services to a variety of vessels in Texas Gulf ports. The

company provides such tug services as ship docking, undocking and harbor assistance;

vessel escort; rig and special projects; and vessel assistance for liquefied natural gas

terminals.

Suderman & Young’s new offices in East River will replace the company’s existing

headquarters at 2777 Allen Parkway.

“We are very excited to relocate our headquarters to East River on a very historical

section of Buffalo Bayou,” said Kirk Jackson, president of Suderman & Young. “With all

the great amenities offered here, we look forward to moving into our new space and

hosting customers and others at this fantastic development.”

The new lease comes as Midway nears the official opening of East River’s 26-acre first

phase this fall.

The company has already completed construction of three retail/office buildings as part

of East River’s first phase, which broke ground in August 2021. Midway said tenants

that have signed leases for space in those buildings are in the midst of building out their

new offices.

When it is complete, the first phase of the development will offer 300,000 square feet of

office space designed to fit a variety of business needs.

The office tenants that have already signed on include Impact Networking; Method

Architecture, which unveiled plans for its new office space in July; Houston Maritime

Center; and Teal, which provides a cloud-based system for delivering hot water to

buildings without water heaters.

The first phase also includes The Laura, a five-story, 360-unit multifamily project

that broke ground in fall 2021. Midway expects to begin delivering units in The Laura

later this year.

Additionally, the development also includes another 100,000 square feet of ground-

level retail and a nine-hole golf course, dubbed East River 9, with an on-site restaurant.

Retail tenants confirmed for Phase I include Lick Honest Ice Creams, El Condor Coffee

Roaster, Tomi Jewelry, Urban Dental, and a new special events venue and landmark

rooftop bar from the owners of The Astorian.

Earlier this year, Midway announced it had broken ground on the next stage of

construction at East River. The Studios at East River, a for-sale office component

consisting of three 10,000-square-foot buildings, is scheduled to be completed in June.

The Studios at East River will anchor the development’s northern boundary on Clinton

Drive. Midway said the goal for the project is to cater to businesses that want to own

their own space. The two-story office buildings will be fully customizable with minimal

interior build-out.
