This beautification project will transform 20 acres in the heart of campus into enhanced outdoor spaces for study and relaxation, tailgating, entertainment and recreation for students and visitors. The project, which is envisioned as “an outdoor MSC,” will include additional and enhanced tailgating space, water features, an outdoor amphitheater, a performance pavilion, public Wi-Fi, dedicated media utilities for national broadcasts, permanent Distinguished Alumni recognition, and improved infrastructure. A new event and office center, jointly operated by The Association of Former Students and the Texas A&M Foundation, will be programmed for year-round use, providing flexible and functional space for Aggie Ring Day and other events. Groundbreaking was held in February 2020, with anticipated completion in summer 2022 (See the full news release). The park renovation will be funded solely through private donations to be raised by The Association of Former Students and the Texas A&M Foundation. The university will lease the park to The Association for the duration of construction. OJB Landscape Architecture will create the park design, Lake Flato will provide architectural services for the design of the event facility, and project management services will be under the direction of development firm Midway. Design firm POTTER is designing the permanent Distinguished Alumnus tribute, with construction being done by JRT Construction of Dallas.
